Parthus (formerly SSL) Forms Strategic Partnership with ARM to Develop Technology for Next-Generation Mobile Internet Devices
San Jose, Calif. and Cambridge, UK - February 28, 2000 -
Parthus, a world leading supplier of application-level intellectual
property (IP) for next-generation mobile Internet and mobile multimedia
appliances, and ARM [(LSE:ARM); (Nasdaq:ARMHY)] today announced that
Parthus has licensed the ARM7TDMI microprocessor core for next-generation
wireless Internet devices.
"Parthus is delighted to be partnering with ARM," said Kevin Fielding,
COO of Parthus. "Availability of the ARM license is key to Parthus as it
is the preferred choice of processor for wireless-internet devices by the
design community worldwide. A strong and lasting partnership with ARM
allows our mutual customers the flexibility to deploy wireless Internet
application IP with the ARM processor core."
"We're experiencing a strong demand for ARM solutions from foundry
customers like Parthus," said Reynette Au, vice president of Worldwide
Marketing, ARM. "Parthus' technology complements the ARM SoC offerings by
adding an application layer to our processor core, and will help provide
OEMs with a full IP solution for wireless Internet devices."
ARM processors range in performance from 60 MHz (54 MIPS) to 300 MHz
(400+ MIPS). The cores are noted for performance, small die size, low
power consumption, tight code density, and multiple supply sources.
Instruction set compatibility between processor families promotes design
reuse and reduces software development time.
ARM offers full system-on-chip solutions including processor cores,
peripheral intellectual property, development tools, applications
software, EDA tools and design services. The ARM architecture is well
supported by semiconductor and system manufacturers, real-time operating
system providers, third-party toolchain developers, application software
providers and ARM design centers.
